The similarity in names can get confusing, but knowing the difference between a twin house and a townhouse can save you a lot of time and effort (and sometimes money!) when making your next real estate decision. That’s why we decided to dedicate a whole blog post to make sure you don’t get them mixed up ever again.
The main differences between the two are highlighted into the table below:
Twin House | Townhouse |
More sun | Less sun |
One neighbor | Multiple neighbors |
Larger gardens | Smaller gardens |
Twin houses are simply two homes on one plot of land, with a wall and fence separating them. Both twin houses have their own private gardens, with side access to the garden usually available. Townhouses share the same plot of land with several neighbours (sometimes up to 6!) and typically only have a backyard with no side access.
As a result of their unique set-ups, twin houses usually have bigger gardens with more angles for direct sunlight, while townhouses often share walls with several homes making for smaller gardens and less direct sunlight.
That said, each comes with it owns price point. For the reasons stated above, twin houses tend to be more expensive than townhouses, with the exception of corner townhouses. Corner townhouses are slightly more expensive than a regular townhouse, given their likeness to a twin house - however, corner townhouses are most likely to sell out first during a launch due to their twin house-like experience for less than the price of a twin house.
Now that the theory is covered, have a browse through Sakneen to get a feel for the twinhouse vs. townhouse experience in real life. Happy browsing!
